Even though we don’t post anymore, I know we still have a lot of K-Pop fans that follow us. ♥
About a month ago, I followed a tall blonde girl into my own rushed wonderland, our white rabbit always beyond the gate or around the next corner. And as we raced through the Detroit airport, I could only see my next few steps. Was it even possible? Were our tickets real? Would the plane actually take off? Even as we settled in our seats and the announcements traveled through the plane, our destination was still too hard to see or even believe.
That moment feels so far away now. Since then, I have been breathing dreams. From the local restaurants to the shopping district of Seoul, everyday my 2D fantasies rise up into buildings before me. The figures that once stood on the other side of a lens thousands of miles away now stand only a few yards away, waving at me. When I sleep, I slip back into a world that seems more real than my reality.
"Why did you come to South Korea?" asked my Korean roommates during our first night in the dorm. I looked down at the Korean-English dictionary in my hands and wondered if it could help me find an answer that made sense.
I wanted to experience a place where people still had honor. Silly, right? But the more I twisted this question around, I could not find an equal substitute answer. My roommates giggled and said, “You are angel!”
I had my own version of Korea that I had been trying to mold as closely to the truth as possible without actually experiencing the country first-hand. And as I look back on that answer, I realize now the complexity of that question for both Caitlin and I.
Compared to most of the other exchange students, we were incredibly prepared to adapt to South Korean culture. Through music, TV shows, movies, and other bloggers; even the most surprising aspects felt familiar. Despite the language barrier, culture shock was practically non-existent. We sort of skipped all of the uncomfortable steps our pre-departure lectures assured us we would suffer through and went right to the end, soaking up every moment we can.
Some days though, just like in the states, it’s hard to get up in the morning. Late night homework and stressful schedules can suck the inner explorer out of anyone. However, we have been trying desperately to find a happy balance.
From K-Pop to future plans, my thoughts and ideas have been evolving ever since we got off the plane. Food, dating, and music. South Korea has shaken up what I thought I knew and has helped refine who I am. Thank you for reading a little bit about that experience, and we have so much more I want to share with you!
We promised you articles and videos about our stay in South Korea; and once again, we have failed you! We have been here about a month and have had so many great adventures. We went white water rafting and walked along the East Sea beach. We spent five days in Seoul and even went to a big K-Pop festival last night! All of these experiences, we want to share with you. But because our program keeps us incredibly busy, we have not been able to keep into contact with anyone. For this, we are incredibly disappointed. However, I hope to start putting my thoughts together and sharing with you what I have learned while in South Korea. They may not be solid accounts of specific experiences but more like a collection of thoughts that help me to understand what it means to be here. I hope you will put up with my rambling and maybe get something out of our experience.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us! I am excited to continue to write once more, and I hope some of you are happy to see us on your dashboard again! We hope everyone is well. We miss you!
Since pretty much everything from the live show can be seen when the episode is put up on Youtube, I’m just going to talk about the things that happened during the rehearsals we had to do! Sorry if I miss anything! We were in the studio for almost 5 hours so it’s hard to remember exactly…
That’s right, I will be meeting them on Wednesday! I got selected to be apart of the live audience for a show called After School Club (click the title to see previous episodes) so I will get to meet all of them :D Here’s more information about the show: CLICK!
I also get to participate in a…
I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT ~Caitlin
So we leave in 4 days and we apologize we haven’t been as active as we said we were going to be. It’s been a very busy month for both of us and we just haven’t had time to do the things we’d like.
I still have a few reaction videos to edit and once those are uploaded they will be the last ones you’ll see from us for now. We will be super busy with our program in South Korea.
I don’t know how often we’ll be able to update this blog since I don’t know if we’ll get to any K-Pop related things.
Thank you though to everyone who has been following and supporting us!
We do have our travel blog (click here) but again I don’t know how often that will get updated.
WE LEAVE IN 4 DAYS! :D
Haha! Yeah, that was our video for a Guru Pop giveaway.
Sadly, we didn’t win, but it was fun to make!
I told Alexa I want to be best friends with Korean soccer playing twins at our university…and then it spiraled into a K-drama from there
